International audience; CUPID-0 is a pilot experiment in scintillating cryogenic calorimetry for the search of neutrino-less double beta decay. 26 ZnSe crystals were operated continuously in the first project phase (March 2017 - December 2018), demonstrating unprecedented low levels of background in the region of interest at the Q-value of $^{82}\rm{Se}$. From this successful experience comes a demonstration of full alpha to beta/gamma background separation, the most stringent limits on the $^{82}\rm{Se}$ neutrino-less double beta decay, as well as the most precise measurement of the $^{82}$Se half-life. Search for heavy neutrinos with the T2K near detector ND280

This paper reports on the search for heavy neutrinos with masses in the range 140<MN<493  MeV/c2 using the off-axis near detector ND280 of the T2K experiment. These particles can be produced from kaon decays in the standard neutrino beam and then subsequently decay in ND280. The decay modes under consideration are N→ℓ±απ∓ and N→ℓ+αℓ−β(−)ν(α,β=e,μ). A search for such events has been made using the Time Projection Chambers of ND280, where the background has been reduced to less than two events in the current dataset in all channels. Elliptic flow of muons from heavy-flavour hadron decays at forward rapidity in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV

The elliptic flow, v2, of muons from heavy-flavour hadron decays at forward rapidity (2.5 < y < 4) is measured in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The scalar product, two- and four-particle Q cumulants and Lee–Yang zeros methods are used. The dependence of the v2 of muons from heavy-flavour hadron decays on the collision centrality, in the range 0–40%, and on transverse momentum, pT, is studied in the interval 3 < pT < 10 GeV/c. A positive v2 is observed with the scalar product and two-particle Q cumulants in semi-central collisions (10–20% and 20–40% centrality classes) for the pT interval from 3 to about 5 GeV/c with a significance larger than 3σ, ba…

Decay estimates for time-fractional and other non-local in time subdiffusion equations in R^d

We prove optimal estimates for the decay in time of solutions to a rather general class of non-local in time subdiffusion equations in R d . An important special case is the timefractional diffusion equation, which has seen much interest during the last years, mostly due to its applications in the modeling of anomalous diffusion processes. We follow three different approaches and techniques to study this particular case: (A) estimates based on the fundamental solution and Young’s inequality, (B) Fourier multiplier methods, and (C) the energy method. Discovery of the new isotopes ²⁴⁰Es and ²³⁶Bk and in-beam spectroscopic studies of ²⁴⁴Cf

The hitherto unknown neutron-deficient nuclei 240Es and 236Bk were synthesised using the fusion-evaporation reaction 209Bi(34S,3n)240Es. The ritu gas-filled recoil separator and the great spectrometer were used in this decay spectroscopic study. The measured electron-capture delayed fission (ECDF) branches in both of the new isotopes complement the experimental data available in the heavier odd-odd Es and Bk isotopes. Furthermore, the ECDF branches show a continuation in the exponential increase of the ECDF probabilities as a function of QEC − Bsf when approaching the proton dripline. Decay spectroscopy of the very neutron-deficient lead and thallium isotopes 178,179Pb and ¹⁷⁹Tl

This thesis reports on the production of the very neutron-deficient isotopes 178,179Pb and 179Tl, using heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reactions. The gas-filled separator RITU and the GREAT spectrometer at its focal plane position were used for the decay spectroscopy study. The α decay of 178Pb and its α-decay chain were studied through α-α correlations. The α-particle energy and half-life were measured for 178Pb as, Eα= 7610(30) keV and t1/2 = 0.21−+0.21 0.08 ms, respectively. The half-life is consistent with recent theoretical calculations using the Coulomb and Proximity Potential Model (CPPM). Laser assisted decay spectroscopy at the CRIS beam line at ISOLDE

A new collinear resonant ionization spectroscopy (Cris)beam line has recently been installed at Isolde, Cern utilising lasers to combine collinear laser spectroscopy and resonant ionization spectroscopy. The combined technique offers the ability to purify an ion beam that is heavily contaminated with radioactive isobars, including the ground state of an isotope from its isomer, allowing sensitive secondary experiments to be performed. Alpha-decay studies of the nuclides 195Rn and 196Rn

The new neutron deficient nuclide 195 Rn and the nuclide 196 Rn have been produced in fusion evaporation reactions using 56 Fe ions on 142 Nd targets. A gas-filled recoil separator was used to separate the fusion products from the scattered beam. The activities were implanted in a position sensitive silicon detector. The isotopes were identified using spatial and time correlations between implants and decays. Two α decaying isomeric states, with E α = 7536 ( 11 ) keV [ T 1 / 2 = ( 6 + 3 − 2 ) ms ] for the ground state and E α = 7555 ( 11 ) keV [ T 1 / 2 = ( 5 + 3 − 2 ) ms ] for an isomeric state were identified in 195 Rn . Direct observation of the Ba 114 → Xe 110 → Te 106 → Sn 102 triple α -decay chain using position and time correlations

The triple α-decay chain 114Ba → 110Xe → 106Te → 102Sn has been directly observed for the first time, following the 58Ni(58Ni ,2n) reaction. Implantation of 114Ba nuclei into a double-sided silicon-strip detector has allowed their α decays to be correlated in position and time with the α decays of the daughter (110Xe) and granddaughter (106Te) nuclei. In total, 17 events have been assigned to the 114Ba → 110Xe → 106Te → 102Sn triple α-decay chain. The energy of the 114Ba α decay has been measured to be Eα = 3480(20) keV, which is 70 keV higher than the previously measured value, and the half-life of 114Ba has been measured with improved accuracy, to be 380+190 −110 ms.
